Casino Arizona's Talking Stick Resort and Kaity's Way will host our 4th Annual Celebrities/Heroes Step Against Teen Dating Violence.....
So save the date and if you are not familiar with this event it is a fun filled evening of good food and spectacular entertainment all to bring awareness and raise funds for Kaity's Way.
The evening begins with an hour to mix and mingle with the Celebrities and Heroes, followed by a wonderful dinner and afterwards a live show. The main attraction being local celebrities and heroes competing for the title of "Best Stepper Against Teen Dating Violence." A silent auction will be held and we will raffle off some great prizes. This is an opportunity to have a great evening, support a wonderful cause and network.

The goals of the Tomorrows Winners program, founded by Julie Sullivan, are to teach students that the decisions and choices they make today will affect their future and the future of their families, to set goals today for a better tomorrow and that God gave them all that they need to be brilliant, they just have to believe it and go for it. Once we teach these truths, we encourage our students to get involved and participate in school. Statistics show that students who get involved in school, stay in school, don’t get pregnant, get better grades and graduate. At every program we bring in high school students involved in clubs and sports to encourage our students to join them when they enter high school. They also share the importance of getting good grades to participate and the fun high school can be.

Kaity's Way will present Kaity's Story to the 600 young men of Tomorrows Winners.
The goals of the Tomorrows Winners program, founded by Julie Sullivan, are to teach students that the decisions and choices they make today will affect their future and the future of their families, to set goals today for a better tomorrow and that God gave them all that they need to be brilliant, they just have to believe it and go for it. Once we teach these truths, we encourage our students to get involved and participate in school. Statistics show that students who get involved in school, stay in school, don’t get pregnant, get better grades and graduate. At every program we bring in high school students involved in clubs and sports to encourage our students to join them when they enter high school. They also share the importance of getting good grades to participate and the fun high school can be.

This conference is for victim service providers, law enforcement, and allied professionals every other year. The conference will be held May 2 – 4, 2012.
This conference has been held since 2004 and has become one of the best conferences in the area. Each conference they attempt to make bigger and better then the last one. This year they have broaden their vision and are offering more workshops for law enforcement and allied professionals. The focus for this year’s conference is to spot light the great work that collaborations between federal, state, and local law enforcement and service providers do and how this collaboration benefits victims.

La Frontera AZ/EMPACT-SPC will be hosting an empowering and educational event called Take Back the Night (TBTN) at the Civic Space Park in downtown Phoenix.
TBTN is a grassroots movement that aims to spread awareness of and stop gender- and sexually-based violence including sexual assault and domestic violence, through outreach, education, and connecting people with aid and protection through community resources. The heart of the event includes a candlelight vigil and survivor speak out, followed by a rally through First Fridays. The event itself will have speakers on issues relevant to the cause including but not excluded to: legal implications of sexual assault and domestic violence, and special considerations for those particularly at-risk such as LGBTQ and immigrant populations. Additionally, there will be a DJ, band, and mindfulness and yoga demonstrations.

The event includes a free puppet show the Arizona Puppet Theater, PBS storybook mascots, a food truck from the Phoenix Food Truck Coalition, a live train kids can ride in, a Bookmans Photo Booth, an interactive story time, a musical parade and so much more! It's oodles of fun for the community and it's just another way they're trying to get valley kids excited about the joys of reading and literacy.

The main concept of the event is to have local celebrities, dance in a competition with local dance instructors, similar to Dancing with the Stars. We also plan to have various types of entertainment between sets, such as various Dance groups, and a Martial Arts exhibition to name a few ideas on the table. Two of our volunteers from DJ Productions have agreed to donate their time to MC the event and do what they do best play music.

In addition, Zoe Foundation will also be restoring the surrounding community. They will have a good number of volunteers cleaning the area and neighborhood by doing yard work, painting over graffiti, and trash pick-up.

Due to February being National Teen Dating Violence Month a Premiere to release a PSA to bring awareness to Teen Dating Violence is scheduled for viewing.
The Governors Youth Commission (GYC), Kaity's Way along with the generosity of Mesa Public Schools TV99 created this PSA in a effort to bring awareness to the issue of Teen Dating Violence. The intent is that it will be available to schools and after school programs throughout Arizona. It runs for 30 secs and gets right to the point.

Kaity's Law will be enacted on this day!
What is Kaity's Law you ask....
Well it is a new law passed just this year by the AZ Legislation, Sponsored by Senator Paton, coordinated by Kendra Leiby of the AZCADV and Bobbi Sudberry, President and Co-Founder of Kaity's Way, testified in favor of this law being passed on a personal level.
In the simplest terms Kaity's Law affords those in abusive or violent dating relationships, sexual or romantic in nature, the same protection under the law as those in a relationship such as, married, living together, formerly living together or married, related by blood or pregnant together.
In other words all provisions of statue 13-3601 are available to those in abusive or violent dating relationships. This means if you are dating someone and they are abusive or violent towards you, law enforcement can arrest them as opposed to just taking a report. This also means that you can file an Order of Protection as opposed to just an Injunction Against Harrassment. They are both just pieces of paper, but the Order of Protection allows a judge to order the confication of guns from the abuser. Then there is the all important paper trail. This will help, if necessary, in the future.
What else does this law provide for those in dating relationships.... Well, repeat offenders will be stricken with a felony that much sooner as on the 3rd offense of a violent act towards a person that falls under Kaity's Law, and that is basically EVERYONE currently or formerly in a romantic/sexual relationship, the offense cannot, I repeat cannot be plead down to a misdemeanor -- The abuser will have a felony on their record, which could also require some jail time and mandatory counseling, not to mention they will have to explain the felony to potential employers.
